Poker Run

This year's Poker Run destination was the Blue Water Resort & Casino in Parker, AZ. It had been raining off and on during the night and about an hour before the Poker Run was to kick off, it started raining again. There was some discussion about canceling it but the crew scheduled to work said it should go on as scheduled, even if no one came. Considering the weather, there was a great turn out with 175 participants and everyone seemed to be in good spirits and looking forward to a sunny weekend.

Due to other commitments and the rain, no photos are available from this year's Poker Run. The cars started out at the same location as the past few years and the first card was drawn at the "Pink Hotel" in Lake Havasu City on the island. One free hand came with each entry and additional hands could be purchased at the first stop for $5.00 each. From there, the cars crossed over the London Bridge and headed south on SR 95 on their way to SARA Park at the south end of Lake Havasu City where the second card was drawn.

From SARA Park the cars continued south on SR 95 to the lower end of the lake and stopped at Havasu Springs to draw the third card.

Stop four was moved due to some flooding on the road leading to Buckskin Mountain State Park and our crew braved the cold and rain to let everyone draw their fourth cards. Only a few cars missed this stop and they were permitted to draw their fourth and fifth cards at the last stop.

The final card was drawn at the Blue Water Resort & Casino in Parker, where entrants enjoyed taking a break and having a bite to eat before heading back to Lake Havasu City for cruise night. In addition to the cash prizes, the Blue Water Resort & Casino also gave away T-shirts, hats, certificates for two night stays, concert tickets and gift certificates for dinner to the 2nd and 3rd place winners.

Bruce Ashford (Entry #788) from Torrance, CA won the $250.00 prize for best hand. He had four tens.

Mike Wilson (Entry #335) from Manitou Springs, CO won the $200.00 prize for worst hand with his 9 high hand.

Our Poker Run Chairman also had a candy guessing game that was won by Gary Hopper (Entry #299) from Nevada City, CA. The jar had 359 pieces of candy and Gary guessed 360. His prize was the jar full of candy to share with his fellow Roamin Angels club members.

Trivia Contest

The people participating in the Poker Run this year also were given a sheet of trivia questions to complete on the drive to Parker. This multiple choice quiz had a $50.00 prize for the most correct answers and Tim Apple (Entry #338)  from Las Vegas, NV and John Gaddis (Entry #98) from Beaumont, CA both got all but four answers correct.
